Science

Welcome to the Science Curriculum page.  Mrs Miller is the subject leader for Science in the school.

Snap Science

At St Theresa’s, we use Snap Science to support the delivery of our science curriculum. This approach provides carefully planned, enquiry-based lessons that encourage children to ask questions, investigate and think like scientists. Through Snap Science, pupils build their knowledge and understanding progressively, while developing key scientific skills such as observing, predicting and analysing. This ensures that learning is engaging, practical and accessible for all, helping children to develop curiosity about the world around them.

Intent Statement

At St Theresa’s, our science curriculum is designed in line with the aims of the National Curriculum, fostering a sense of curiosity and wonder while developing a secure understanding of biology, chemistry and physics. We aim to equip pupils with the knowledge and skills they need to understand the world around them and recognise the importance of science in everyday life.

Through practical, enquiry-based learning, children develop key scientific skills such as questioning, observing, investigating and drawing conclusions. This prepares them not only for the next stage of their education, but also to become informed, confident individuals who can engage with science in the wider world.

Implementation

At St Theresa’s, our science curriculum is implemented through carefully planned, sequenced lessons that build knowledge and skills progressively across each year group. Using a structured approach, including resources such as Snap Science, teaching is centred around enquiry, allowing pupils to explore scientific concepts through questioning, practical investigation and discussion.

Teachers use clear modelling, subject-specific vocabulary and regular opportunities for retrieval to support pupils in remembering and applying their learning. Assessment is ongoing and informs future teaching, ensuring that all pupils are supported and challenged to achieve well in science.
