Welcome to our Nursery page!
The Nursery at St. Theresa’s is seen very much as a partnership between home and school. We hope that your child will be happy, make friends and learn to do lots of new and exciting things.
The Nursery (and Reception Classes) are part of what is called The Early Years Foundation Stage of Learning (EYFS). Children in the EYFS follow a special Early Years curriculum.
We want our Nursery to be a happy place, where your child can feel safe and secure. We will make it our responsibility, firstly to help your child settle into the Nursery, and then to give them on-going care until he or she moves on to a school Reception class.
Our nursery provision has been developed through lots of early years research
and is based around both the 'Curiosity Approach' and 'Hygge'.
The Curiosity Approach
The Curiosity Approach is a child-led, play-based educational philosophy that ignites children's natural inquisitiveness, aiming to develop "thinkers and doers" by moving away from technology-focused, pre-packaged toys towards open-ended, natural resources like loose parts, household items, and natural elements. This approach fosters creativity, problem-solving, and a deep sense of wonder through exploration and discovery, drawing inspiration from pioneers like Montessori and Reggio Emilia.
Through their play, children are fully engaged in being curious, creative, exploring and investigating, experimenting, testing, finding solutions and making decisions.
Hugge'
Hygge in the early years is a Danish concept applied to childcare, focusing on creating a warm, calm, secure, and nurturing environment that fosters well-being, happiness, and connection by enjoying simple pleasures and being present. It involves slowing down routines, decluttering spaces, embracing nature, prioritizing child-led play, and building strong relationships, moving away from overly structured or cluttered learning.
